My 2025 Word of the Year

For me, picking a theme for the year sets the tone for how the year will go. I have, over the last 8 years or so, picked many themes, from “move” to “grace” to “survive.”

But this year is different. There’s something magical about 2025. Maybe it is because for the first time in a few years, I feel like I have come up for air. Maybe because the way I have designed my life prioritizes my own joy and happiness. Maybe it is that I am sick of myself, and genuinely want to change and grow and be better. Regardless, I am ready for 2025.

Resolutions set, bingo card made for all of the many resolutions I have made(and let me be clear, I have made too many), I find myself even more contemplative with a desire to place value on the year ahead. I set up all these resolutions with a goal: to make my life a little better, and find ways to prioritize what matters to me.

Drumroll please….my 2025 word of the year is “Thrive.”

“To flourish or prosper.”

That’s what I want for the year. To flourish. I’ve spent so much of my time scrambling, and I have no desire to be harried or stressed anymore. Obviously, there will be stressful periods of my life. There will be things I can’t control. But I want to thrive in a way that I haven’t before.

Thriving for me means being true to my intentions, believing in myself, and finally dedicating the time to chasing the dreams that matter the most for me: writing, reading, content creating, and traveling.

How I’m Prioritizing “Thrive” in 2025

  1. I’m revisiting my 25 for 2025 list every day. This is going to help me remember what I have wanted to commit to, and also ensure that I don’t lose sight of what I’m interested in pursueing this year.
  2. I’ve made my cell phone background my word of the year, so I am reminded of it:

3. I usually commandeer my sister into making me a “word of the year” bracelet, so that I have something to remind me every day for what I am aiming for.

Do you pick a word of the year? How long do you remember your word, and what do you do to prioritize your word of the year? Let me know in comments, and I’ll see you next Friday!
