2025 in Review: Jobs, Life, and Everything in Between

I’ve been looking back to 2025, and wondering where the year went. It was such a pivotal year, and month by month, I wanted to review. Give myself a log of what happened:

January: I joined a local board, started posting bookish posts to my Instagram, and adopted a cat named Sunflower. I saw John Green speak live, which was so fun, and I attended the beautiful wedding of a long time friend.

February: For Valentine’s day, I went to see Cabaret, which was such a moving performance.

March: I saw Brooklyn’s Bridge, a musical biography of Emily Roebling and her story stepping in when her husband’s health suffered, providing much of the math/engineering for the bridge.

April: I think this is where the shift happened. I put in all of my PTO to take off most of May and some of June. Somewhere in April, I decided that I deserved better. I also attended a beautiful wedding that was so joyful and special.

May: I went to Chicago! I wrote most of the draft of my novel!

June: I finally made the decision to leave a job I’d had for six and a half years. It was weird and I had many, many, many emotions about it. I still have many emotions about it.

July: I started my new job, and basically stopped reading. I was just too exhausted to do so.

August: I turned 32! 22 year old me would be so impressed with myself, which I think is a personal win. A weird win, but a win.

September: I honestly stopped posting or creating for like 6 weeks. I don’t know what happened, honestly, I just fell out of the groove.

October: I started making myself read, and write, and do. I went to an author talk by a local nonprofit, and really felt like I was getting into a groove at work. Also, Taylor Swift’s new album came out, which basically meant it was a holiday for me.

November: Oof. I had such an exciting amount of professional success this month. It felt like I finally had things figured out. I saw Hadestown, which was very cool.

December: I finished out the year with lots of time with friends, and two weeks off for the holiday season.

Not listed: Many, many nights staring at my phone. A lot of my cat biting me.

It was a year. One that I’ll remember for the good and the not so good. But it was the sort of year I’ll look back on as pivotal, and I appreciate that.
