Balancing My Goals

The last two weeks have been a challenge. My days have been busy, and I’ve just barely been able to do the deadline based things that I need to accomplish. So here is what I’m working on to try to manage my goals.

First, one of my “20 for 20” goals for the year was to take 4 classes for the year for my graduate program. The program recommends if you’re working full time, to not take more than 2 classes per semester, and I am taking 1. Quite frankly, it isn’t that I am overwhelmed with the one class, but I don’t think I can manage a second class and working full time. So instead of doing 4 classes this year, I will end up taking 3. And that is totally okay, but means that I am amending my 2020 goals already.

And because I am writing so much for my class, it makes me want to write less in terms of blog posts. I am extending myself the grace of writing short posts, and I am acknowledging the fact that consistency is better than doing absolutely nothing like I did last year.

I also added a goal(yes. really.)

On top of the 20 for 20, I am also wanting to film a video book review for every book I read this year. I find that it easier for me to get my thoughts out about books in video form, but I’ve also now added a whole seperate thing to do. But at the very least, it is a fun thing to do.

I think that this is about balance. I am not putting parameters on needing to read a book and film a video a week, but rather that 52 books will get read this year. On lighter weeks, I’ll read more. On heavy weeks, I’ll read less. It’ll all balance out.

I think I’m going to give up on cooking a new recipe a week. It’s just too much mental energy.

That is all for today. Let me know in a comment how you are amending your resolutions now that we are a month in!

Best,

M
