Dear Reader, I’ve blogged quite a bit this year. More consistently than I used to, not as consistently as I wanted to. But I read a lot more than I have any other year that I have been blogging, so I wanted to talk about the best book I read this year.
I don’t know if I have ever done a proper book haul on this blog. I know I’ve done library hauls before, but I think this is slightly different. However, I have found myself purchasing some books, and because of that, I wanted to share them with you.
I’ve been following Hannah Hart since some of her very first My Drunk Kitchen episodes, and Hart has always kept her past and personal life separate from her public life. This book dives into the personal bits, and it was a book that was definitely worth the read.
I love reading memoir, and have for a long time. I’ve been reading memoir since I was a child, so naturally, when I heard about The Art of Memoir by Mary Karr, I jumped on it. Ashley from Climb The Stacks recommended this, and the link goes to her video review of the book.

I had the pleasure of reading The Interpreter of Maladies in a class called “Gender and Diaspora” when I was in college. I was familiar enough with Jhumpa Lahiri to know that her writing was mesmerizing and that I wanted more. I found The Namesake in a free mini library at the Dandelion Communitea Cafe in Orlando, and immediately devoured it.

I’m going to get right to it. I loved this book. I loved it so, so, so much, I wish I could just carry around a stack of 10 or so and just hand them to people and say “read this, it’s amazing.” I have more coherent thoughts on this, if you’d like to read them, so click below for that.

Having read 27 books so far this year, I want to keep going. So far I have been reading randomly, without much regard to what I’ve picked up, and while I’ve enjoyed what I read, I want to approach the rest of the year with a little more planning.
So here is what I plan to read:
I recently sat down and listened to The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper, checking it out on Hoopla, and finding myself desperately clawing for more time to listen to this book. This book, the debut work of Phaedra Patrick, tells the story of an old man who goes on an adventure after the untimely death of his wife. Sounds familiar?
